Hopeconnections winter drive
Submitted By Rick LaPlante
The process of sorting and boxing food and gifts got under way over the weekend for the annual Winter Drive organized by Logan's Hopeconnections Club. Advisor Linda Rodrigues reported that the Drive will help 78 underprivileged families this year by providing holiday gifts, canned food and food certificates.
Canned food this year came from drives held at Alvarado, Eastin, Emanuele, Hillview Crest, Pioneer and Searles elementary schools, Cesar Chavez Middle School and Conley-Caraballo and Logan high schools. Gifts for the children were purchased by employees at the District office as well as Mission Springs and Hope of Christ churches, Logan's advanced-placement physics classes and other individuals. Baby baskets were donated by the Logan Sikh Forum, and handmade baby blankets by Shepherds Care Ministries. Food certificates were donated by Logan's Classrooms Adopt a Family program and Logan staff members, clubs and athletic teams.
Among those helping Hopeconnections with logistics are Shepherds Care Ministries, Mission Springs Church, Bob Johnson and the Logan Sikh Forum.
Delivery will take place on Saturday, Dec. 22. To help that day, meet at the Union City Library, 34007 Alvarado-Niles Rd., Union City at 9 a.m.
