Berkeley City Ballet brings the Nutcracker to Fremont
Submitted By Erin O'Keeffe
Berkeley City Ballet (BCB) presents the holiday classic, the Nutcracker at the Gary Soren Smith Center at Ohlone College in Fremont. The 34th annual production of BCB's rendition of this holiday classic strikes the perfect balance of a traditional production with light-heartedness making it enjoyable for all ages. The production features a cast of over 50 dancers with elegant costumes and sets and combines Berkeley City Ballet students with professional dancers.
"Berkeley City Ballet is thrilled to return to Fremont to bring the holiday tradition of the Nutcracker to the Fremont community," said Elizabeth Godfrey, Artistic Director of Berkeley City Ballet. "Our production offers audiences the best of both worlds' - the beautiful dancing of our student and professional dancers with the accessibility of a program that children of all ages can enjoy."
Founded in 1974, Berkeley City Ballet (BCB) is committed to bringing cultural enrichment and an awareness and appreciation of the art of dance to the East Bay. BCB provides the intensive training and performing experience necessary to qualify young dancers for entrance into major dance companies. Advanced students audition and are selected to participate in supplementary workshops at renowned schools. Over the years, a considerable number of BCB graduates have continued into professional careers in dance with companies such as American Ballet Theatre, Joffrey and Dance Theatre of Harlem. BCB offers classes to students ages four and up.
