St. Joseph's School in Fremont has donated 742 pounds of Halloween Candy to the Tri-City Homeless Shelter and will be donating $1,484.00 to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Dr. Andrew C. Wong, Orthodontist in Newark, has a "Keep Sweets off the Streets" program where he "buys back" candy from his patients for $2 per pound.
Justine DeClaro and the Student Government at the St. Joseph's School in Fremont decided to turn this into a fundraising event. They collected over 500 pounds of candy and over $1000.00 (from Dr. Wong) to donate. Dr. Wong personally presented the check to their school at the end of November. The second grade class collected the most candy this year (the same group of kids won last year) and they will be enjoying a pizza party!
This is certainly a fine example of giving during this time of year. |
