Christmas at the Shinn House
This holiday season; experience the magic of a majestic and festive home. Take a journey into the past to learn more about the history of both Fremont and the holidays. The historic Shinn House will be holding a Christmas opening on Friday, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m. that is bound to give visitors a heartwarming Christmas experience.
Shinn House was built by nursery owner James Shinn in 1876. The house sits on nearly five acres of land surrounded by rare shrubbery and plants collected from all over the world. Every year, the Shinn family decorates their home for Christmas and that tradition continues through the efforts of dedicated docents.
Today, the house is furnished with dˇcor from the Victorian era and tours are held throughout the year. To keep with tradition, Shinn House is still decorated each year for Christmas consistent with the 1890s. Every year, wreath-making parties create enough wreaths to decorate all 37 windows of the house. A lit driveway will guide visitors to the home.
Christmas at the Shinn House provides an opportunity for guests to tour the house with a docent guide, enjoy light refreshments, and sing carols beside the fully decorated Victorian Christmas tree.
Experience the celebration of Christmas in the Victorian era and the amazing dˇcor of the Shinn House.
Tickets to tour the Shinn House are $5 for general admission and $2 for children ages 12 and younger. For information about Shinn House, call (510) 795-0891.
