Tuesday, Oct. 23, was a warm and sunny afternoon on Central Park Soccer field #9 in Fremont. The Under-16 House League girls of Caution were facing the girls of Los Tigres Azules. Caution team knew if they did not win this game they would be knocked out of the running for second place in the league, so this was a must win game. Caution's Captains, Dipti Kanthilal and Kamya Raja lost the coin toss, which meant Caution would have to start the game at a disadvantage because they had the sun in their eyes. It also made it difficult for Caution goal keeper Sara Talooi to defend the goal because of the blinding sun. However, she made some spectacular saves and kept Los Tigers Azules from scoring during the first half.
Caution's offense finally got going midway through the first half when a shot along the ground from forward Selina Masheri found the back of the net as it caught the Los Tigres Azules goalie on the wrong side of the goal box. The second goal of the game for Caution came from Alexis Kageyama as she powered an awesome kick over the Los Tigres keepers' head and just inches under the goal cross bar to end the first half scoring at 2-0.
The second half started with a bang with Azules' offense powering in a quick goal to cut the lead to 2-1. Caution would answer when midfielder Malika Rajvanshy made a perfect corner kick that bounced off the cross bar and fell to Alexis Kageyama who chested it into the goal. Caution defensive players Erica Ohye, Christina Kim, Dipti Kanthilal, Kamya Raja, Rachel Heng, Nan Li, Rachel McMullen, Zahra Sarwary and Nicole Gronski then went to work and shut out LTA the rest of the way to give Caution a 3-1 victory and keep their hopes alive for a second place finish in the league. |
