Three Titan teams move on to conference second round play

By Biff Jones

Tri-Cities Titians, playing out of Newark Junior High, are in their third year of Pop Warner football and in their first season of participating in Division II. They spent their first two years (minimum required) in Division III. This year, they qualified all of their teams for post season play that were eligible to participate. The two Tiny Mite Teams, ages 5-7, do not play past the regular season, while Mitey Mites, ages 7-9, played in a bowl game. That was as far as they could go in the post season.

In older division play, all four teams, Junior Peewees, ages 9-11, Peewees, ages 11-12, Junior Midgets, ages 12-14, and Midgets, ages 13-15, qualified for the playoffs where a team could advance to their division's Super Bowl in Orlando, Florida in January 2008. It takes nine post season victories to win a Super Bowl, but only one loss and the seasons over.

Last week-end, the Titians' Mitey Mites lost their bowl game to Oak Grove Central Raptors of San Jose, 24-6 and the Peewees lost their playoff game, 27-6, to Delta Bay Buccaneers of Pittsburg to finish their season at 6-2-1.

Advancing to the second round of the Peninsula Conference, this extends from Oakland and Pacifica in the north to Salinas/Monterey and Santa Cruz in the south, playoffs are the Jr. Peewees, Jr. Midgets and Midgets. Jr. Peewees defeated Menlo-Atherton Vikings 18-12 and this was the first time all year that a team has scored against them. Jr. Peewees record is now 8-0-1, having just a 0-0 tie as the only blemish. Jr. Midgets improved their record to 8-1 with a 28-0 thrashing of Daly City Titans and Midgets got past Mountain View Marauders, 31-17, to go 8-1 for the year.

Next up for the victors are: Jr. Peewees vs. Gilroy Browns, Saturday, Nov. 3, 9 a.m., at Morgan Hill Outdoor Sports Center (MHOSC), 16500 Condit Road, Morgan Hill; Jr. Midgets vs. West Bay Rams of San Bruno, Saturday, 3 p.m., at San Benito High School, 1220 Monterey Street, Hollister; and Midgets vs. Menlo Atherton Vikings, Saturday, 3 p.m., at MHOSC. Winners advance to Conference, third round play the following week-end. Good luck to all the remaining teams.
