Thanksgiving Dinner needs you
Submitted By Shirley Sisk
The freezers are empty and ready, and the Tri-City League of Volunteers (LOV) is waiting for 250 turkeys and 90 hams. So far there are none. Last year, 4,182 were served either at the Newark Pavilion or to the homebound in Fremont, Newark, Union City, Hayward, San Leandro, San Lorenzo, and Castro Valley.
The 19th Annual Thanksgiving Dinner is a joint effort by "Partners in Giving", 27 Tri-City and Hayward service agencies who will offer an afternoon of good food, entertainment, and children's crafts on Thanksgiving Day from Noon - 3 p.m. In addition, there will be free boxes of food given to every guest. In order to make it easier for guests without transportation, volunteers will personally pick up attendees. There will be seven pick up points that will be posted in Fremont, Newark, and Union City. All guests have to do is call LOV at (510) 793-5683 to dispatch a "turkey taxi" for a ride. Fore those who are homebound, meals will be delivered.
There is still a need for turkeys, 375 pies, 600 oval roasting pans, and all the other ingredients needed to make it a memorable Thanksgiving holiday for those who do not have either the money or shelter to enjoy the traditional Thanksgiving meal or fellowship. Volunteers are also needed. From Nov. 19-23 you can cook a turkey or ham, carve, prepare dressing, pick up donations, pack food boxes, set tables, decorate, serve dinner, clean up, supervise crafts for kids, or deliver homebound meals.
Visit www.lov.org or call (510) 793-5683 for more information.
