Inauguration and Charity Ball

The Federation of International Physicians in the U.S. (FIPUS) Inc. held its' first Inauguration & Charity Ball at the Newark Hilton on Saturday Oct. 6. Some 350 guests attended the event which was headed by Senator Leland Yee. Also attending the event were Fremont Mayor Robert Wasserman, Milpitas Mayor Joe Esteves, and Council Lady Anu Natarajan.
The Hilton Ballroom was decorated in white and gold, with a potted orchid of a different color at each table. At the end of the evening, these centerpieces were raffled for free by FIPUS Inc.'s Secretary Dr. Benita Tan.
The surprise of the evening was the arrival of Elvis Presley impersonator Gus Olmedo, who sang several Presley hits, followed by a hula dance by Dr. Richard Abe's wife Jenny. At 11 p.m. the silent auction, consisting of crates of imported wines, jewelry, and vacation spots. The vacations to the Manila Peninsula, Manila Shangri-La, stay at the Marriot Hotels in San Francisco and Burlingame, a stay at the Westin Hotel in San Francisco, and a condo in Las Vegas for one week were completely sold out.
Dancing was held until 1 a.m. with the music of Pol Bayamor.
FIPUS Inc. holds monthly educational and dinner seminars. The next affair is a costume party on Oct 31 at the Papillion on Mission Blvd., Fremont. This will be hosted by Merill Lynch.
