Art in the Park
By Mona Shah
The sixth annual Art in the Park event promises to be a fun-filled extravaganza for the entire family. With the historic Ardenwood Farm as its backdrop, this event, co-sponsored by the City of Fremont Parks and Recreational Services, Fremont Cultural Arts Council and the East Bay Regional Park District, focuses on art, education and music in a genteel, 19th century country setting.
City of Fremont Recreation Supervisor Irene Jordahl traced the history of the event saying, "Art in the Park began as a "Walk in Time: Art and History in the Park" and over the years the name has changed to 'Arts in the Park', but still includes history. The original idea of the event was to offer a venue for fine artists to showcase their work and for historical groups to share their visions. Each year a new aspect is added. Last year, we brought in the Family Fun Airbrush tattoos (participating again this year) as well as Bay area musician Marty Atkinson. This year we have a very interesting addition of the Mobile Spa that will offer free mini-facials to participants as well as free samples."
Since the event is primarily focused on art, many local artists will be in attendance. Not only will their works be on display, but visitors are encouraged to discuss techniques and watch as they demonstrate their skills. Art chosen for this show includes renderings in acrylics, oils, inks and watercolors. Visitors will view works on paper and in ceramics, handcrafted jewelry, sculptures, and photography. Show attendees will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite artist's work. At day's end, votes will be tallied and a People's Choice Award will be presented. Browsing is encouraged and offers to purchase will be enthusiastically received.
Special activities include L'Bel Paris Mobile Spa and Family Fun Airbrush Tattoos. L'Bel Paris, is a prestigious brand of French skin care, cosmetics and fragrances that is making a grand entrance in the U.S. with a 40-foot spa on wheels that will travel throughout California. This self-contained mobile vehicle will have three estheticians and a makeup artist providing complimentary mini facials and makeup application services to visitors. Samples will be available at the mobile spa. Family Fun Airbrush Tattoos for children and their parents are also a crowd favorite. These fun tattoos, though temporary, last longer than face paint and are non-allergenic and organic.
