Little League

Weird ending for Section 3 Little League Juniors (13-14 year olds)

By Biff Jones

In Junior Tournament Sectional play at Vallejo Mill Elementary School in Fremont, home fields for Niles-Centerville Little League teams, Niles-Centerville Juniors, District 14 Champions, met Half Moon Bay in a third round winner's bracket match-up. HMB prevailed 5-4 to send NC to the loser's bracket of the double elimination tournament. First game in the loser's bracket saw Niles defeat San Ramon Valley 13-3 to bring a rematch with HBM in the Championship game. In the rematch, the Juniors from NCLL throttled Half Moon Bay 16-0 to force the "what if" game and the right to move on to Divisional play. This time HMB turned the tables on Niles- Centerville and sent NC packing with an 11-1 thumping. For HMB, it is on to the California Division 2 (NorCal) tournament at the University of Pacific in Stockton, while the highly successful season for the Junior All-Stars of Niles-Centerville came to an abrupt ending.

For District 14, Mission San Jose Seniors playing in California Division 2 (NorCal) Tournament play, the season ended in San Jose at Branham Hills. After losing 9-5 last Friday to Sierra Buttes of Yuba City in opening round action, a second loss in the double elimination tournament this past Sunday, 10-8, to San Francisco sent them home for the summer. More information and action photos on MSJLL Seniors will be forthcoming in next Tuesday's edition of TCV.
