Potter Mania
By Mona Shah
With the release of the seventh and final book in the Harry Potter series, fans were out in full force to discover the fate of the teenage wizard. Alameda County libraries hosted Harry Potter events and at the Centerville branch in Fremont, a massive turnout of muggles and wizards enjoyed a myriad of activities and refreshments worthy of a visit to Hogwarts. Bill Cheng was the winner of a free copy of the book - he won the trivia game "Jeopardy" to secure the prize. Five other free copies were given out to lucky winners as part of a drawing.
Queues of people outside bookshops, all intent on being among the first to read the seventh and final book in the series, began to receive their reserved copies at one minute after midnight. At that first moment on Saturday morning, all was revealed. Muggle that I am, I was still swept up in all the excitement. I was awake till past midnight to secure a copy of the book. Got it, yeah!! |
