InHealth Channel Celebrates Second Anniversary
InHealth, a Washington Hospital Channel broadcasting throughout Fremont, Newark and Union City on Comcast Channel 78, is celebrating its second birthday in July. Producing first-rate original health programming specifically geared toward Washington Township Health Care District residents is one of the most important goals behind the InHealth Channel.
As InHealth enters its third year, its programming line-up will continue to reflect Washington Hospital's commitment to better serving the local community by providing the viewing audience an opportunity to take advantage of hospital resources from home, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The success of Inside Washington Hospital, a program that gives viewers an inside look at how patients are evaluated and treated by members of the Washington Hospital medical staff is a prime example of one of the ways InHealth is connecting with members of the community.
"The concept of Inside Washington Hospital is to educate the public about the patient care experience in a down to earth way so that they can really learn something,"
says program host John Thomas Mehigan, M.D., medical director of Washington Hospital's Off-Site Community Education. "Our shows feature real people talking about what they do and where they practice medicine."
Since the program's inception, Inside Washington Hospital has showcased Washington's Heart Surgery Program, Stroke Program and the Washington Outpatient Wound Care Clinic.
Debuting this month, Inside Washington Hospital: Emergency Room will take an inside look at how Washington Hospital's team of emergency room physicians and nurses assess and treat patients when they arrive at the ER. The program is intended to educate viewers about conditions that require emergency room attention and when to call 9-1-1. Dr. David Orenberg, director of Emergency Services at Washington Hospital and other ER staff talk candidly in the program about their commitment to providing patients with the highest quality of care.
During the past year, Voices InHealth, an interview-style program hosted by Barbara Kostick, M.D., medical director of Washington Hospital's Community Health Services, has featured representatives from the California Transplant Donor Network, Northern California Cancer Center, Washington Hospital Foundation and others offering their professional insight about the services their organizations provide to the public.
"Voices InHealth is a dynamic forum for experts to share and discuss health and safety issues that affect all of us," says Dr. Kostick. "Programs on topics such as Hospice Care help educate the community about the support and services that are available for them and their loved ones."
