Music at the Grove
By Charlotte Hill
During the summer, it's easy to lounge around the house, dreading the outdoor heat. But starting Sunday, July 1, the City of Newark will be cool, shaking your summer routine; the 21st season of "Music at the Grove."
Bring your family, a picnic lunch, and a cozy blanket to Shirley Sisk Grove in Newark to hear music ranging from Motown to country. The series will begin with the Big Bang Beat, a grove favorite featuring 70s disco and funk along with contemporary hits, and groups will continue to perform every other Sunday for the next eight weeks.
This year's schedule is as follows:
July 1: Big Bang Beat-70s disco and funk, contemporary 80s and 90s hits July 15: Joni Morris-country songs of Patsy Cline, Connie Francis, and others July 29: The Unauthorized Rolling Stones-high-energy music of the Rolling Stones August 12: The Joe Sharino Band-pop, rock, Motown, funk, and disco August 26: The Drifters-classics hits
All concerts are free for the whole family, so don't miss out! Concerts will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Shirley Sisk Grove near NewPark Mall. Free parking is readily available. For more information, call (510) 742-4400. |
