A new mom in town
While business has not been particularly slow at maternity wards and birthing centers, a new mom and dad is always a top priority for families and friends. Celebration of motherhood and fatherhood recognize their special role, providing support and guidance to our children. New life brings hope and promise for our community.
Special congratulations are in order for councilmember Anu Natarajan who became a new mom when she recently returned from a trip to India with her three year-old daughter, Pranali. Almost three years ago, she and her husband, Sundaram, decided to adopt a child. Although paperwork and pictures were their only personal contact with their new daughter prior to this trip, Anu notes matter-of-factly, "she needs a home." After a week of visiting with each other, the family was on its way "home."
After a 19-hour flight during which Pranali was a model passenger, the new family arrived in Fremont. Adjustment has been swift. Although there is a language barrier, this has proven to be a minor obstacle. "She is enjoying herself; everything is a new experience." This is a new experience for mom and dad too. "The reality of looking for day care, pre-school and babysitters will hit soon," says Anu. She notes that when processing paperwork, the impact is somewhat removed, "but on the flight back home, it hits you that this child will be part of you for the rest of your life. That was a big 'aha' moment." How is dad taking all this? Anu says that he is thoroughly enjoying his new role. "He is enjoying every moment with her."
A belated happy Mother's Day and Father's Day to the Natarajan family.
Welcome home, Pranali.
