Milpitas Library Book Sale
By Charlotte Weston
It's true that books open a world of information and knowledge to individuals who love to read, but sometimes those books can get pretty expensive. That's why Friends of the Milpitas Library (FMOL) take pride in having their semi-annual book sale each year. This group of over 200 residents is devoted to supporting Milpitas Library patrons and activities.
The book sale is FMOL's main fundraiser. Their September 2006 book sale brought in over $6,000 for the Milpitas Community Library. Inside book sales added some $7,000 more. Altogether, the group raised about $25,000 for the library.
FMOL President Diane Davis says she is very excited about the event. "It's feels good knowing that we are helping someone afford a book they may not otherwise be able to afford at a regular book store."
The next book sale is scheduled June 1 - 3 in the Community Room of the library which is located at 40 North Milpitas Blvd. (Next to Milpitas City Hall.)
Friday, June 1 is for members only, from 7 to 9 p.m. Memberships may be purchased at the door for a nominal fee of $5.
Saturday and Sunday, the sale will be open to the public. Saturday hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday is "bargain day" beginning at 11 a.m. and running until 3 p.m.
Prices on Friday and Saturday will be: books, $1.50 per inch; VHS tapes, cassette tapes, and CDs, $1 each; audio books, DVDs, and VCDs, $5 each. Some special items are priced separately and will be marked as such.
Bargain day is paper bag day. Each grocery bag you fill with books will cost $5 per bag. In addition, multimedia items will sell for half-price.
Donations are welcomed and greatly appreciated. You can drop off your experienced books and multimedia items in the drop-off box to the right of the door next to the Milpitas History Room.
