Going with the flow, Denise Oyama Miller

Submitted By Mavis Brown

Have you ever wondered how watercolorists get that beautiful glow in their paintings, or those interesting transparent color mixtures? Then you'll want to come see Denise Oyama Miller utilize the inherent qualities of water and pigment to achieve these effects. She will be the Guest Artist at the June 6 meeting of the Fremont Art Association, 37659 Niles Blvd, Fremont, at 7 p.m. Denise will demonstrate a technique for pouring paint onto the watercolor paper that is fascinating and fun to do. She has been experimenting with this technique for over 15 years and will share her technique and valuable tips. This is an evening demonstration not to be missed, and is open to the public as well as to FAA members.

Denise says, "When I took up watercolors in 1992, I immediately became hooked on the beautiful transparent colors that are possible in this medium. I also began exploring in other media, such as pastels, collage, mixed media, and acrylics. I love trying out new techniques and applying them to images that I find interesting. I am particularly interested in representational images from nature, such as landscapes, florals and animals. I am inspired by the colors and textures of the natural world. I love the challenge of trying to capture moments in time when the light casts beautiful shadows and the colors glow."

She also expresses her artistic talents in pastel, collage, mixed media, acrylics, and painting textiles for wearable art, art quilts, and soft sculptures. Denise will be participating again in the upcoming FAA Open Studios on June 2 and 3, 2007.
