Fire Truck Day
Ardenwood salutes firefighters and their equipment with family fun
A siren sounds in the distance and most of us listen intently as it comes closer, wondering what emergency vehicle it heralds. At the moment it races by with horn blaring and siren screaming, there is a sense of something both romantic and heroic about those on a mission of mercy and rescue. Protective emergency services - fire, ambulance and police - give all of us a feeling of comfort and respect since the men and women in those vehicles may be facing an ultimate test of skill, endurance and bravery as they race to an unknown challenge.
Each year, Ardenwood Historic Farm salutes a group of America's bravest - our firefighting services - displaying their trucks and tools (past and present), that aid them. Climb aboard a fire engine, ring the fire bell, and join the "Battle of the Fire Trucks." Meet a search and rescue dog and learn about fire safety. Music, crafts, games, and lots of squirting water will make this a wet and wild day for the whole family.
