Team USA Power Soccer
By Biff Jones
United States National Power Soccer Team wrapped up its three day training camp at George M. Silliman Center in Newark this past week with an exhibition for the general public in the Center's basketball gymnasium. The roster of eight men and four women were divided into three teams of four (red, white and blue teams) and played a series of twenty minute periods against each other. Regulation games consist of twenty minute halves. Head Coach Chris Finn of San Leandro and his staff were evaluating the twelve player's abilities, as only eight would make the final roster that would travel to Japan in October 2007 for the first World Power Football Cup. The other four players will be alternates and may or may not make the trip, depending on available funding.
The team is looking for sponsors as each athlete must cover his or her expenses plus that of a full-time assistant for the 12,000 mile trip. If you would like to make a tax deductible contribution to the team, go to website www.powersoccerteamusa.org . These disabled Americans are fantastic athletes and need your help to represent our country.
