Summer Camps: Aquatic Programs

This week we carry information of Aquatics programs in the area. Previously, we covered Summer Science Camps and Summer Sports Camps. For information on those, be sure to check our archives at http://tricityvoice.com.

Fremont - The City of Fremont contracts with the Fremont Swim School for swim programs. The school has 2 locations - 42400 Blacow Road in Fremont and 37400 Cedar Blvd in Newark.

Classes are available for children as young as 6 months old. The summer session is from June 17 to September 17. For information, go to www.fremontswimschool.com or call (510) 657-SWIM in Fremont and (510) 794-SWIM in Newark.

Newark Silliman Center - The Summer Aquatics program at the Silliman Center at 6800, Mowry Ave., Newark runs from June 18 through August 16. Swim lessons are available for ages 6 months and up.

Lessons are offered from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Summer Activity guide for Newark will be out end of April. Registration begins on May 1 for Newark residents and May 8 for non-residents. Online registration will be available at http://newark.org. In addition the Center offers the following Summer Camps-

Water polo camp - Offered for 5th through 9th graders. Tuesdays and Thursdays June 19 through July 12 and Friday July 13. Tuesdays and Thursdays July 17 through Aug 9 and Friday Aug 10.

Jr. Lifeguard Camp. June 25th to June 29th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Ages 11-14.

Run, Kick Swim Camp- Incorporates Soccer, Kickball and Water polo in addition to swim lessons. For 1st to 5th graders. Camp runs July 16 to 20 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Sprint, Toss, Splash Camp - Incorporates modified versions of track and field events. For 1st to 5th graders. August 6 to August 10 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Building Future Leaders Camp - Incorporates different types of team building exercises both in and out of the water. August 20 to August 24. For 1st to 5th grade from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Silliman Center also offers the following special events.

Parent's night out on July 6. For Ages 3-14. 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Splash and Movie Night on August 17 - All are invited. Bring your own pool float to watch the movie 'Flushed Away' from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Boat Races - Make your own boat out of cardboard and tape. Sit in it and race across the pool. Starts at 1:30 pm on July 20.

Extended day care is available for all camps.

Newark Summer Swim - This program is offered at the Newark Memorial High School from June 19 through July 27 in two week blocks. Classes are 30 minutes long and are offered for all levels of ability. For more information check out http://www.newarksummerswim.com/.

Milpitas - Swim lessons are offered at both the Milpitas Sports Center located at 1325 E. Calaveras Blvd and Milpitas High School, 1285 Escuela Parkway. Classes run from June 25 through August 16. Summer swim camps are as follows -

Swim Camp Level 1 - July 23 to August 3. Ages 8 - 16.
Swim Camp level 2 - August 6 to August 17. Ages 8 - 16.
Water Polo Camp- Water polo is a combination of soccer and basketball in the pool. July 23 to August 3. Ages 8 - 16.
Jr. Lifeguard Program - Participants will train in pool safety and rescue techniques. June 25 to July 7. Ages 10 - 14.
Advanced Jr. Lifeguard program. Teaches pool safety and advanced rescue techniques. July 9 to 20. Ages 13 - 14.

Mission San Jose Aquatics - The program rents three pools in Fremont. Locations are: Ohlone College, American High and Irvington High. Registration for the SwimAmerica program will be available shortly at their website www.teamunify.com

Hayward - Swim lessons are offered at Hayward Plunge located at 24176, Mission Blvd, Hayward and Mount Eden Swim Center at Mt Eden High School at 2300 Panama St. Hayward. Summer starts June 25 through August 24. Lessons are offered from ages 1 and up. In addition, the following summer camps are available -

Swim tennis camp- Campers will spend a third of their time on tennis, and a third swimming and a third on their choice of the two. This camp is offered at both the Hayward Plunge and Mt. Eden.

Sports swim camp - This a multi sport camp that incorporates swimming as well. The camp runs from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and campers can chose to swim till 3:30 p.m. for an additional fee.

Registration starts May 1 for residents and May 8 for non-residents. The activities brochure will be out April 17. Contact Tom Prusinovski at 881-6703.
