Annual scholarship concert

AC Transit, along with Reach Out and Touch a Youth Project; Amalgamated Transit Union Local 192; and Local 3916 of the American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees (unions representing AC Transit workers), is proud to sponsor a gospel scholarship explosion to benefit high school graduates. Gospel music greats from around the East Bay will appear at the 13th Annual Billy J. Givens Scholarship Concert in a powerful festival of music and songs.

The concert honors AC Transit bus driver Billy J. Givens who was shot to death in 1988 while driving his bus. It was a horrific act of violence made all the more stunning because Givens was a highly respected and generous man who spent much of his life advocating for youths, pushing them to pursue education.

Featured performers include Allen Temple Men's Chorus, Pacific Boys Choir, Center Street Missionary Baptist Church, AC Transit Gospel Choir, ABC Mimes, Pleasant Grove Worship Ministry, Gifts of God Praise Dancers, and Jennifer Clevinger.

Admission is free and tax deductible contributions are welcomed. Last year's concert provided $500 scholarships to 30 low-to-moderate income students within AC Transit's service area. Dorothy Stanton, president of the Bay Area Religious Announcers' Guild, will host the event.
