Local church responds to Katrina
In March 2006, the congregation of Christ Community Church of Milpitas responded with generosity, and contributed to the building of a house for victims of Hurricane Katrina. The frame was completed in the parking lot of the church on March 4, 2006. It was then transported to McComb, Mississippi, where it was re-assembled. Seven members of the church went to Mississippi to do the reassembling of the house. The church also furnished the house.
A ninety two year old woman, Katie, and her daughter Clodine, evacuees from New Orleans, Louisiana, now occupy the house. Both are very grateful to the church for providing them with both shelter and furnishings.
Two members of the team, Alex Boyd and Gary Fessenmeyer are also participating in another protect entitled Rebuilding together. This project involves volunteers from all over the country, and the objective is to rebuild over one thousand houses in New Orleans. Alex was instrumental in helping to rebuild and refurbish a kitchen for an eighty-year-old woman. Gary, a contractor, was able to lead a group of people in the rebuilding process. There will be on going trips to the Gulf region. Interested individuals can contact Alex or Gary at Christ Community Church, 1000 South Park Victoria Drive, Milpitas (408) 262-8000.
Locally, the church will be rebuilding a house for a long time member of the congregation. This will entail general work, painting, electrical work etc. This rebuilding will take place on April 14,21 & 28.
