New Haven Unified School District will host a third community discussion about possible uses for the Cabello Elementary School site after the school is closed in June. The meeting will be Wednesday, March 21, 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Educational Services Center, 34200 Alvarado-Niles Road.
The district is considering housing several programs at Cabello, including Student Services and Special Education district administration and Centralized Enrollment. With administrators on site, the district could open a community day school to meet the needs of students on expulsion. A centralized west-side pre-school program also has been proposed.
Several other ideas surfaced in two previous community discussions. These ideas include: a library, adult school classes, branch facilities for organizations such as Centro de Servicios and Spectrum Community Services, a District charter school, senior citizens' classes and alternative care facilities, a health clinic, recreation programs, church and Sunday school use, and many others.
District staff will incorporate feedback from the discussions in formulating a recommendation for the board of education. |
