Prince of Peace Patriots Win Mission Peak Tourney
The 22nd Annual Mission Peak Basketball Tournament began on Wednesday, January 10 at Prince of Peace School in Fremont. 16 teams (8 boys and 8 girl's teams) play over the course of 4 days. The teams are from local private schools with players in 5th - 8th grade.
The Mission Peak Basketball Tournament kicks off the beginning of Prince of Peace's basketball season. The Prince of Peace girls had not won the Tournament in 8 years. So when the girls won their 2nd game, and discovered that they were headed to the Championship game, they were definitely surprised and a little nervous!
Prince of Peace and Redeemer from Redwood City met in the Championship game on Saturday evening. Both of these schools play against each other in regular season and belong to the National Lutheran Schools. Both teams were evenly matched, with Prince of Peace keeping a slight lead throughout most of the game. In the final minutes, a few players fouled out and the score was tied. The final winning baskets were made in the last minute of the game on a lay-up and a free throw. Tears of relief and happiness washed through the Prince of Peace team as the buzzer blasted. Way to go Patriots!
