Brief city council meeting
By Arnie Becker
Tuesday, January 16, was probably one of the shortest Union City City Council meetings on record. From start to finish it was about 25 minutes. Mayor Mark Green called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. with the pledge of allegiance. There were a few procedural votes, one speaker who was upset that his motor home had been cited and towed by the city and a presentation by Will Maroun, vice president of the Caravan Trading Company.
Mr. Maroun gave each member of the council and staff a Ready-To-Go emergency food kit that has been approved by the American Red Cross. Mr. Maroun would like to see these kits in the hands of students and residents of Union City as part of the earthquake preparedness program. Each compact, portable kit comes complete with no preparation necessary in order to use; complete meals for one person for three days and has a shelf life of three years from the date on the package.
The kits can be ordered from Caravan Trading, 33300 Western Avenue, Union City 94587.
