Club Sport's Flying Fish Compete In Junior Olympic Championships.

The Flying Fish Swim Team from Club Sport, Fremont competed in the Pacific Swimming Junior Olympics Championships in Concord from July 15th through the 18th, 2004. The following 11 swimmers with AA times participated in this meet - Brighton Laiman (15), Jasmine Huynh (14), Jennifer Bone (14), Vivian Dang (12), Jessica Tu (12), Victoria Lee (11), Amy Lam (11), Sash Alcon (10), Lauren Damian (10), Jennifer Xu (10), and Jade Woo (10). Team members, Tanya Tran, Eileen Nguyen, Kathleen Nguyen, Dominic Rapp, Justin Ho, Daniel Lim, Alexander Yaung, and Garrett Chan, competed in a number of relays in the 10 and under, 11/12 and 13/14 age groups.

Lauren Damian and Jennifer Xu got new Q times in the 50 fly (Q times are the qualifying time standard for the two Far Western Championship meets that Pacific hosts each year and are the usual time standard for Pacific age group championship meets). In the relays 10/Under Girls 200 Meter Free Relay team members Jade Woo(10)/Sasha Alcon(10)/Lauren Damian(10)/Kathleen Nguyen(8) placed7th and the
10/Under Girls 200 Meter Medley Relay team members Jenn Xu(10)/Sasha/Lauren/Jade placed 5th. 10/Under Boys 200 Meter Free Relay team members DominicRapp(9)/Justin Ho(9)/Daniel Lim(9)/Alexander Yaung(9) placed 7th and 10/Under Boys 200 Meter Medley Relay team members Dominic/Justin/Daniel/Garrett Chan(8) placed 8th. 11/12 Girls 400 Meter Medley Relay team members Vivian Dang(12)/Jessica Tu (12)/Amy Lam(11)/Victoria Lee(11) placed 6th.

The following Flying Fish team members Sasha Alcon (10), Lauren Damian (10), Jennifer Xu (10), Rohan Patnaik(12), Jasmine Huynh(14) will be competing in their individual events in the Far Westerns swim meet on July 28th through August 1st at Independence High School in San Jose. In addition the 10/under boys and girls qualified for a full compliment of relays as well. Filling out the above relays will be Eric Lam (9), Zoe Lu (12), Eileen Nguyen (11). Far Westerns are one of the biggest age group meets in the country attracting swimmers from all over the Western United States and Mexico. According to Aquatics Director Mark Carter "This is the meet that the best and brightest swimmers shoot for. It takes a Q time to qualify".

The Flying Fish is a small year round USS (United States Swimming) team that has been in existence at Club Sport for about six years. It is composed primarily of children 8 - 16 years of age. They compete in multi team meets with other teams from around the Bay area and Northern California. Most of the competitions are in Alameda, Contra Costa or Santa Clara counties although recently swimmers traveled to Hawaii for a meet. To become a member of the Flying Fish Swim team a swimmer must try out but does not have to be a member of Club Sport. Many are residents of the Tri-City area though there are some who come from Milpitas. The team is overseen by the Aquatics Staff at Club Sport under the direction of Mark Carter, Aquatics Director. Mark Carter, says "We have taken kids to this level in the past but this is our biggest most well rounded group."

Club Sports Fremont also has a five-year old Masters Level swim team called the Barracudas coached by American High School graduate, Amanda Jeffs. The team members need to be members of Club Sport and range from 19 years of age with no upper age limit. Sixteen of the team members, ranging form 19 years to the oldest being 90 years old, competed in the July 10th weekend at the University of California Santa Cruz against teams from all over Northern California. The team competed with over 400 swimmers from over 45 teams and placed 8th overall. The following swimmers won different events in the meet - Kevin Do (19 - 24 year old 50 and 100 Breast), Chis Raimondi (19 - 24 100 Fly), Shinji Takeuchi (35 - 39 200 Breast), Aram Yoo (19 - 24 50 Back). Team members also won the 120 - 159 400 Free Relay and the 76 - 119 Mixed 200 and 400 Medley Relays. Other ClubSport members who competed and placed include Chris Barrie, Marcella Casebolt, Jocelyn Cote, Mya Fong, Brian Frisby, Michael Hirosake, Jessica Lam, Roberta Passman, Chrsity Patten, Nicole Sata, Tyler Westover and Stephanie Yu.
