Blizzard wins second place in Dublin tournamentby Naseem Chini
Fremont Youth Soccer League U-12 team, Blizzard, finished the season with a loud roar. They took second place in their division and were extremely close to winning it all, tying first place Scorpions in points with 34. Blizzard led the league in goals with 48 and allowed the fewest at 8.
Their phenomenal performance qualified Blizzard to represent FC Fremont in two other high profile tournaments, Crossroad Tournament in Dublin on November 18 as well as Sunset Tournament on December 2 in San Ramon. Blizzard played superbly in both tournaments.
At the Crossroad Tournament, they won all three preliminary matches in their flight against Newark Eliminators, and both San Ramon and Pleasanton Raiders, to advance to the championship game. In a fiercely fought match against an experienced Warriors team from Livermore, Blizzard finally bowed, 1-0, to finish the tournament in second place.
The team worked remarkably well together all season and enjoyed fervent support from all parents and dedicated leadership from coaches Yoed Nehoran and Pat Mapelli. Credit goes as well to assistant coaches, Santiago Lee and Nelson Fuentes. Thanks for a wonderful season Blizzard! |
