Ten sanctioned events are planned for 2009, beginning with a New Years Eve Gala on December 31, 2008. There will be a re-enactment of the incorporation of Union City, a Lunar New Year Celebration in the spring; a city wide parade and car show; a spiritual festival that will include members of all faiths; a day-long family summer event with fireworks or laser light show; a sports showcase; a diversity celebration; and a historical tour. The year will end with another New Years Eve celebration that will be more family oriented. Council agreed to consider a request from the committee $20,000.00 in start-up money.
