Marsh Mud Maniaby Nikhil Dua
On Sunday, Nov. 5, kids age 5 and over can play in the mud and discover how birds around the marshes survive by feeding on critters living in this gooey environment.
Learn about the mudflats in the San Francisco Bay and its diverse habitats. Discover such creatures as earthworms, mud worms, shrimp, copepods, clams and even mussels. Birds that feed on these tiny creatures include shorebirds, sandpipers, egrets, stilts as well as herons. Establish the health of the mud by testing it for how many critters reside in the mushy marshes. The mud is considered healthy if it is full with various kinds of creatures.
Wear comfortable walking shoes and you may need to grab the jacket due to the surprises in the weather.
