Earth Meets Waterby Kim de Young
Six local artists are participating in Earth Meets Water - A Ceramic Showcase presented by the Fremont Art Association in Niles. An artists’ reception will be held on November 5, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Akio Aochi is a prolific local potter who uses a very traditional style with traditional glazes and creates his pots with amazing ease and quality. Gene Bobik has a very engineered style of making pots. He is very thoughtful with his forms and surface treatment; all of his work is highly planned out and exhibits excellent craftsmanship. Mary Bobik focuses on the organic; there is no doubt when looking at Mary's work that the medium is clay. She has a great understanding of how far to push the material. Kim de Young’s work is whimsical. She focuses on fantasy and imagination, approaching clay as a canvas. Anastasia Kaverina’s work combines figure and movement. Her pieces, although often functional, have a very sculptural appeal. Dorothy Highbaugh has a distinct sculptural style. All of her pieces celebrate wisdom and humor.
