Scream Shutout Charmers in a Routby Paul Dunn
Charmers won the toss and elected to play against the stiff wind which was their first mistake. Scream took the kick off, and with the wind to their backs, immediately went on the attack. The Charmers defended valiantly but rarely got the ball out of their own half of the field. Reema Agarwal opened the scoring for Scream with a beautiful goal, and soon after, Zarin Kahn fed the ball to Melody Chen whose low shot beat the goal keeper to make it 2-0. Before the first half was over, a second goal by Chen came on a fine solo effort to make the score 3-0.
The second half saw Scream with a revamped offense of Megan Dunn, Marissa Lee, Maryam Khademi, Adrienne Fong and Selina Mahesri. Scream pushed forward and Khademi, playing aggressively on the left wing created several chances for herself and her teammates, but the Charmers defense held steady. Eventually, Mahesri made a good run down the right wing and cut inside to hit a strong shot into the top of the net. Rachel Heng finished the scoring when she intercepted a clearance at the edge of the Charmers penalty box and hit a measured shot over the goalie from 20 yards out to make the final score 5-0. |
