Lightning Strikes at Celtic Harvest Tournamentby Jeffrey Floro
FC Fremont Lightning, the Girls Under 14 Select team, placed 4th in last month's Hugh Kinnear Celtic Harvest Soccer Tournament.
The Lightning came out strong with a shutout game of 2-0 against 49er Blaze and a 2-2 tie game against Walnut Creek Fusion. Offense of Kelsi Calhoun, Andrea Bonilla (scoring both goals in the 49er game), Aubrey Lalumandiere, Janell Koide (scoring both goals in the Walnut Creek game), Lindsay Cole, Sabrina Siu and Samantha O'Brien were all hitting their targeted passes to each other, keeping the ball out of their opponent's hands. Midfielders' Deborah Blalock, Lica Monobe, Melissa Grey, and Natalie Sanchez along with defenders Lauren Floro, Shannon Genberg, Emily Sutedja and Alaina Gold were responsible for helping Molly Zamora only have 2 goals scored on them. Way to turn up the heat.
Despite losing 4-1 against the Mustang Extreme, (Janell Koide scoring), they accumulated enough points to make it to the consolation round of the tournament.
During the consolation game against the Peninsula Kickers, The Lightning played catch-up for most of the game: Sabrina Siu scored to even the game, 1-1, and Samantha O'Brien scored in the closing minutes to tie the game 2-2. The Lightning could not find the back of the net after that, and the Kickers scored on the last minute of the game. The Lightning was the only Fremont team to place in the Celtic Harvest Tournament held at Central Park hosted by FC Fremont. Congratulations, Lightning!! |
