The Platinum Group

Recognition of excellence is usually accompanied by a moniker to indicate the level of achievement attained. Often value is compared to elemental metals such as copper, silver and gold. Through the ages, gold has been prized above most other metals for its rarity, beauty and malleability. Another metal, Platinum, also beautiful and rare has come to symbolize an even more select indicator of achievement. For this reason, a group of real estate professionals have adopted the name and association it inspires.

The Platinum Group is the brainchild of the late Steve Marshall, a local entrepreneur who proved his business acumen through ownership of local Kits Camera franchises. Marshall gathered friends and associates after entering the real estate profession to create a company dedicated to the highest level of knowledge and service. As a gauge of his esteem for his coworkers and the level of service to be provided, a natural association was with Platinum.

Ken Smith, a friend and real estate consultant with the Platinum Group calls Marshall "a visionary" with the foresight to share the best of his talents with others who adopted his philosophy. Platinum Group Real Properties, Inc. formed in 2003 and moved along with a cooperative mortgage business, Platinum Group Funding Corp, to its present location in January of this year. Although Steve Marshall passed away prior to the relocation, approximately 60 others completed the move along with son Jeff and daughter, Shauna both Realtors(r), who participate in the business along with Dexter Lat, president and real estate consultant of Platinum Group Real Properties, Inc. and Travis Gutke, president of Platinum Group Funding Corp.

The guiding principal of the Platinum Group "family" is that all working within the group are entitled to support and share in its success. Smith notes that some real estate agencies simply provide a place to 'hang your hat' and little else is done to encourage or offer opportunities for growth and success. As a consequence, while the number of agents housed in the agency may be impressive, those successful maintaining a full-time career in real estate is much smaller. "We do everything we can to see that everyone here is successful," says Smith.

Lat echoes the sentiment saying that the Platinum philosophy "stems from Steve Marshall who had a helping nature." His belief in supporting others extended to support of many community organizations and collections of food and clothing for orphanages in the Philippines. A "chain" of support is the key ingredient of Platinum's family fabric. Each agent is an important link of the organization and charged with the responsibility of continuing to help those who follow. "This is the foundation of our group, even given the competitive nature of real estate sales and funding" says Lat. He continues that while some may view the market as exclusionary, belonging only to those who can muscle others aside, the Platinum philosophy welcomes its agents as specialists with unique talents and makes the assumption that helping others creates additional business that benefits everyone. Platinum Group, special in many ways!
