FC Fremont makes win for the Scream's birthday girlby Assistant Coach Paul Dunn
On Wednesday, Sept. 13, the Scream and the Strikers competed in an intra-league house game to begin the 2006-2007 Season. Scream pushed forward to start the contest, trying to score an early goal as the Strikers sat back on defense. With the help of several great saves by Striker's goalie, Striker's defense bent but did not break to keep the game a scoreless draw through most of the first half. Then late in the half, the persistent pressure by the Scream's mid-fielders Rachel Heng, Rhian Dunn, Marissa Lee and birthday girl Nicole Gronski, led to several chances by Zarin Kahn and finally 2 goals by Melody Chen. Another goal by Reema Agarwal, late in the half, was disallowed because of the offside rule.
In the second half Scream's continued pressure led to a hat-trick by Chen, as she scored her third goal of the match. The scoring ended as Heng made a good solo effort to record Scream's last goal that gave them the 4-0 win to start the new season out on the right foot. |
