B & S Charity Golf Tournament at Castlewood Country Club

by Biff Jones

The Third Annual Barone's and Spin-A-Yarn Charity Golf Tournament, benefiting ValleyCare Pediatrics and Housing Consortium of the East Bay will take place on Monday, September 11, 2006 at Castlewood Country Club's Hill Course located at 707 Country Club Circle in Pleasanton.

There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place along with door prizes, a silent auction and a live auction.  In addition there is a mulligan package that includes a hole in one, a putting contest, longest drive and closest to the pin.

The schedule for the day is 10:00 a.m. registration and check in, 11:00 a.m. lunch, 12:15 p.m. shotgun start and scramble, and 6:30 p.m. dinner at Barone's.

About the charities:

Valley Care Pediatrics is a non-profit organization established in 1961 to serve the Livermore, Pleasanton and Dublin area.  The ValleyCare Health System has provided quality health care for this area for over forty years and is a state-of-the-art facility.  Funds donated to the ValleyCare Health System from this golf tournament will go directly to Children's Services at the Pleasanton Medical Center.  ValleyCare and the Packard Children's Hospital of Stanford have formed a partnership and are conducting a combined program in Pleasanton to serve neonatal intensive care services with a new pediatric unit located in the Pleasanton ValleyCare Hospital.  It brings top-notch medical services to patients who would have normally had to go to Stanford for services.

Housing Consortium of the East Bay (HCEB) is a non-profit organization that promotes inclusive communities for people with developmental disabilities thorough affordable housing in Alameda and Contra Costa counties.  Over 12,000 individuals with developmental disabilities (such as mental retardation, cerebral palsy, epilepsy and autism) live in our community.  More than half of the adults with developmental disabilities live at home with their parents, largely due to the serious shortfall of affordable housing.

In response to this extreme need, HCEB was established in 1998 by a volunteer collaboration of parents, service providers and advocates.  Since then, the organization has created over 30 units of permanent housing, provides assistance to over 100 consumers and families per year and has created a first-time home buyer program for individuals with disabilities and their families.  HCEB has a new construction development underway in Fremont which will provide 11 units of permanent accessible housing with rents affordable to our clients.

In both personal and combined efforts, over $1,000,000 has been raised for the local charities.

Becoming a sponsor for the tournament is a not only a valuable business investment, but an excellent opportunity to create goodwill, entertain clients and gain corporate exposure for your business.  Sponsorship levels offer a range of golfing, premier media recognition, advertising on the tees, program advertisement and recognition at the dinner reception.

If you are unable to participate as a sponsor, then please consider playing in the tournament as a non-sponsor.  The cost is $250 per individual golfer.  Sign up soon, as a quick sell out is expected.  Door prizes and silent auction items may also be donated.  For more information contact the golf committee chair, Jennifer Anders, at 510-501-3130, Saki Kavouniaris, proprietor of Spin-A-Yarn Restaurant, at 510-656-9141, or Joseph Barone, proprietor of Barone's Restaurant, at 925-426-0987.
