August 15, 2006 > Celebrate Milpitas!
by Arnie Becker
What once was the Milpitas Art & Wine Summer Festival is no more. Commencing this month, it's a whole new summer bash with a new name and a smashing new style. "Celebrate Milpitas! Crossroads of Culture and Technology" kicks-off Saturday, August 19 and continues Sunday, August 20, at 10 o'clock sharp on Milpitas Blvd. between Los Coches and Turquoise Streets. Each day's activities will run through 6 p.m.
This new festival celebrates a community of cultural diversity and cutting edge technology companies. Families and individuals are all welcome to enjoy what the organizers call the "most unique summer gathering in Silicon Valley." Entertainment will run all day on multiple stages. Of particular note, the popular musical group, The Hitmen, will perform on the Main Stage from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday; and the South Bay School of Music Arts will present a musical variety show on the Community Stage both Saturday and Sunday.
A wide variety of arts, crafts and interactive displays for kids and adults await festival-goers. Don't miss the Milpitas Business Showcase, the Keypoint Kids Area or the high-tech "Supercar." This year, organizers have also arranged for a rock-climbing wall that can accommodate all ages and skill levels. The focal point for information and a cold drink will be the Chamber of Commerce Information booth on Milpitas Blvd. Their volunteers will be ready to assist any way they can. They will also have a complete entertainment schedule and guide titled, "Special Celebrate Milpitas Tabloid."
No festival would be complete without plenty of food and drink delights. Milpitas' tremendous cultural diversity promises a wide array of gustatory choices for all. You'll have a great chance to mix and match the various flavors and styles of the world throughout the weekend.
Sponsors of this year's event include Milpitas Chamber of Commerce, Kitchen Works, Keypoint Credit Union, Linear Technologies, Kaiser Permanente, Lifescan, Huntford Printing & Graphics, City of Milpitas, Santa Clara Valley Water District, Budweiser, KNTS, KFRC, Albertson's, Liberty Electric and Prismatic Signs and Banners.
Admission is free of charge and there'll be plenty of free street parking within one block of the event. Bicyclists will also have parking space in a free and secure corral at Los Coches and S. Milpitas Blvd.
Bring the whole family, the sunscreen and sun hats and relax in the sun all weekend long.
