Help us help children with cancer by enjoying an ice cream socialby Marla Blowers
The Newark Optimists are pleased to announce the date for the 2nd Annual Ice Cream Social to benefit the Optimist International Foundation Childhood Cancer Campaign. The event will be held on Aug. 13, from noon to 4 p.m., at the Newark Pavilion, 6430 Thornton Ave.
The monies raised last year were used to help buy a plasma screen TV for the George Mark Children's House (a children's hospice) in San Leandro and a portion was sent to Johns Hopkins University Oncology Center through the Optimist International Foundation Childhood Cancer Campaign.
Last year's event was a great success and we expect this year to be even better. There will be ongoing live entertainment; a multimedia presentation on childhood cancer; lots of ice cream; fantastic raffle prizes; and good old-fashioned, down home fun for the whole family.
Tickets will be sold at the door or may be purchased ahead by calling Marla Blowers, (510) 793-1498. Cost includes an ice cream sundae or root beer float, a raffle ticket, and all entertainment. Tickets are $10 adults, $5 children 12 and under, $25 family (two adults and two or more children). Hot dogs, sodas and chips will be available for purchase at a nominal cost.
So, grab the kids, grammy and gramps, and the neighbors and come to beautiful downtown Newark for an afternoon of fun. You'll be glad you came and you'll help kids with cancer have a brighter future!
