The Tri-City Ballers of the International Basketball League, playing out of Newark Memorial High School, have rediscovered their early season form that led to a 5-0 start. The Ballers have won six in a row and eight of their last nine, averaging 143 points per game. Recent Ballers addition Markeen Chandler - averaging over 24 points per game - offers another solid scoring option to last year's IBL scoring leader Javon Harris (35.3 points per game in 2005).
Tri-City at 13-4 leads the Western Division of the IBL by percentage points over the 14-5 Seattle Mountaineer. The Ballers had home victories last week, 145-122 against Aurora, Co. Cavalry Sunday 18th and 130-129 against Chico Force Thursday 22nd. Last Friday, June 23, Tri-City traveled to Oakland to take on the Slammers and came away with their sixth straight victory 171-169 in double overtime. Chandler had 45 points for the Ballers to lead all scorers, while Harris poured in 36 and Anthony Lackey added 23.
Tri-City has two more games remaining in the regular season, this Friday 30th at Chico then a make up home game against Chico with a date to be determined. The Tri City Voice will publish the post season schedule as soon as it becomes known. |
