Searles Elementary School teacher Annette Iwamoto has been selected to receive an Outstanding Teacher of the Year award from the California State University East Bay chapter of the Phi Delta Kappa honor society.

Iwamoto will be honored Friday, June 9, at a dinner at Golden Mountain restaurant in Hayward.

Debbie Nemecek, who teaches at Emanuele Elementary School, received the 2006 David H. Russell Award for excellence in reading instruction, presented by the Alameda County Council of the International Reading Association.

ACRA President Michele McKinley noted that the veteran kindergarten teacher's "knowledge, commitment and enthusiasm are well known throughout the county."
