Scouting celebrates 50 years in Tri-City area
"In this year 2006 Celebrating Fremont, it should be recognized that Fifty years ago, the Mission Peak District came into creation to become responsible for the delivering boy scouting program in Fremont, Union City and Newark."
District Chairperson Alan Olsen said " We are proud to say that in the last fifty years, over 50,000 people have benefited from the Scouting program whose Mission is to prepare young people (men and women) to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of Citizenship, Character Development, Mental and Physical Fitness. Notable alumni of the scouting program in Mission Peak include Fremont City Engineer Norm Hughes and Doctor Jim Gearhart.
"Scouting has changed over the last fifty years just as society has. The program now includes women in leadership and in venture scouts. The leadership, which is all volunteer, now includes people of all creeds and nations, reflecting the changing demographics of the Tri-City area. What has not changed are the values of scouting delivering a program with timeless values in developing citizenship, character and fitness" said District Executive David Rodriguez.
