Local people tell Fremont storiesby Arathi Satish
Come and be part of a unique opportunity, as long time citizens of Fremont tell their stories about the city they have lived in. The Fremont Main Library will present Fremont Stories: the Oral History Project on Wednesday, April 19. This is the fourth event in the library's "Celebrate Fremont's 50th" series held every third Wednesday of each month. In this special event, local people will relate stories to bring the City of Fremont's history alive.
The Fremont Stories: Oral History Project will be presented by members of the Fremont Heritage Team. Presenters are Patricia Schaffarczyk, Coordinator of the Fremont Stories Project and Nydia Estrada, Board Member of Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum, Celebrate Fremont Steering Committee and Heritage Team. Patricia and Nydia will host the program that features video interviews with Fremont residents participating in the project. They were helped during the videotaping process by volunteers from Fremont Adult School, local high schools and Ohlone College. Local history is depicted through the individual stories of personal experience. These remembrances are critical to understand the history of Fremont and relate to its present and future.
Seating is limited. The library is wheelchair accessible. An ASL interpreter will be provided for this program if requested 7 days in advance. For more information call the Fremont Main Library at (510) 745-1401 or Janet Cronbach at (510) 745-1429.
