New Haven Unified School District board briefsby Rick La Plante
The Board of Education received a report from Superintendent Dr. Pat Jaurequi on staging for the first two years of the Strategic Plan. The Plan, conceived by the community and adopted by the Board to drive budgeting and decision-making for the next five years, includes 54 "action plans," half of which are to be implemented during the first two years. A copy of the Plan can be viewed on the District website www.nhusd.k12.ca.us.
The Board also approved reducing hours for library assistants at the three middle schools by 1.5 hours per day. The Board originally reduced the assistants' hours during the 2003-'04 school year, but the District was able to use grant money to delay the reduction. The grant expired last year. The assistants will keep their positions, but at reduced hours consistent with the '03-'04 decision.
In other action, the Board adopted its meeting calendar for 2006-2007; approved '06-'07 courses for James Logan and Conley-Caraballo high schools; received an update on the budgeting process for '06-07; and heard a report on Proposition 82, the Preschool for All Act. The Board also was introduced to Chris Hobbs, who began work Monday as Executive Director for Technology. |
