Presentations of the night began with the commendation of crossing guard Scott Pace. Scott was named the 2005-2006 "Outstanding Crossing Guard of the Year" and was at the meeting to accept his award. The Union Sanitary District also made a presentation to give the Council an update of its activities. Rich Currie, General Manager, was at the meeting to make the presentation.
March 2006 has been proclaimed as American Red Cross month. Burt Yin, Chair of Alameda County Disaster Services, accepted the proclamation at the meeting. In addition, the Council proclaimed "The Week of the Young Child" in honor of the annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The purpose of the week's observation is to draw public attention to the needs of young children and their families. Janice Fotinos of Every Child Counts was at the meeting to accept the proclamation. |
