Love My Home, a Chinese perspective
An excited group of young students gathered to be recognized for artistic achievement at the American Chinese School on March 4. Students competed in an International Teen/Youth Drawing Competition exploring the environmental theme, "Love My Home." School is held Saturdays on the American High School campus in Fremont with the stated mission, "To provide the local community a place for their youths to learn and practice Chinese language and understand Chinese culture." Classes are held in Cantonese and Mandarin language as well as "enrichment" classes that explore the worlds of Chinese Yo-Yo, Drawing, Kung Fu, Tai-chi, Abacus, Dance and Music.
Principal Wai Ming Kok expressed her appreciation for the hard work of all participants and noted, "The drawings clearly reflect that our next generation is eager to help others, learn from others and love others all over the world." Instructors were recognized for their contribution to this effort and included, Zhachui Ouyang, Xiangmao Ouyang, Xia Wang, Chen, Lee, Hongjun Lee, Xiangdong Zheng and Li Tian.
All entries were proudly displayed in the hallways and following the ceremony, parents and guests admired the imagination and skill of these drawings. Noteworthy participants who received special recognition were:
