Irish Cultural Dayby Michael Leahy
Does your family have a favorite recipe for Irish soda bread? If so, then preheat your oven and participate in Fremont Irish League's annual St. Patrick's Day Soda Bread Contest. The Fremont Irish League invites you to bake two loaves of Irish soda bread and enter them in the contest for first, second and third place prizes.
Contestants should bring entries to the Montessori School of Fremont, 155 Washington Blvd. (near Washington and Mission Blvd.) no later than 4 p.m. Friday, March 10. Each entry must be labeled with the cook's full name, address and telephone number. Judging will be held on March 11 at the Irish Cultural Day celebration. Other events include Irish traditional step dancing, Irish Celtic music by a traditional Irish band, Extended Roots, singing and refreshments and arts and crafts for the kids and a surprise visit by a "real" leprechaun.
For additional information call Michael Leahy at (510) 445-1127 or Timothy Reilly at (510) 494-5792.
