Police Captain Lance Morrison received a commendation from the Council for his 26 years of service. Morrison will be retiring on Feb.17, after having served Newark since Feb. 1, 1980. In addition to being dedicated to keeping the city safe, Morrison is an advocate for SAVE, PFLAG, and other community organizations. Mayor Smith gave Captain Morrison special thanks for having been a great leader to the Yowza band as well.

Council Matters
Mayor Smith and Councilmember Johnson wished everyone a happy Valentine's Day. The Council also congratulated Captain Morrison and wished him the best in his retirement. Vice Mayor Nagy informed the community that motivational speaker Michael Prichard will be returning to Newark on Thursday, Feb. 16. Prichard will be doing three programs: one at Newark Jr. High, one at the Continuation High School, and an evening Parent Program. Nagy encouraged the community to attend.
