Newark resident Virginia T. Nguyen was crowned Miss Vietnam, USA in the summer of 2005. The Council prepared a commendation for Nguyen and she was present at the meeting to accept the honor. This former Newark Memorial High School student is currently attending the University of California, Berkeley and has become a role model for local youths.

Council Matters
Councilmember Apodaca stated that having completed her first full month as a councilmember, she has fully enjoyed being a part of the Council. Councilmember Freitas wished his wife a happy birthday.
