'A Night at the Oscars'by Julie Gilson
The Center Theater Preservation Group Inc. (CTPG), a nonprofit group dedicated to the preservation and community use of the historic Center Theater announces the first-ever "Night at the Oscars" party for the public in the Tri-City area. The 78th annual Academy Awards will be telecast live on the big movie screen at the Center Theater, as a fundraiser for the preservation of the theater.
The gala will include a red carpet entrance, delectable food and drink and lots of Hollywood glitter. Attendees will vote, just like the real Academy, for their favorite stars and movies. Prizes will be awarded for the most accurate predictions and to winners of trivia contests and raffles. The Centerville Business Association Farmers' Market and Martin's Beauty Supply have generously provided initial underwriting.
Tickets are $100 and are available in person or by phone at Bogie's Discount Pet Supply, 37030 Post St., Fremont, (510) 795-6000 and Fremont Flowers, 37085 Fremont Blvd., Fremont, (510) 797-1136. Seating is limited and early ticket purchase is advised.
CTPG will use the net proceeds from this event in its campaign to preserve and operate the Center Theater, located at 37411 Fremont Blvd., Fremont, with the eventual goal of owning the facility. We believe this resource can best be used in our community if it is owned and operated by a nonprofit entity. Our vision is that it will be a venue for a variety of community uses from rehearsal and performance space for local performing groups to shows by nationally-known artists.
