Blackhawks Peewee B TeamA game we should have won Dec. 11 in Fremont
There is hardly a worse way for a game to start; we got a penalty six seconds into the game and gave up a goal 20 seconds later. The goal was scored during 4-on-4 action, since a Stockton player was penalized shortly after Brandon headed to the box. After the shocker, the Santa Clara Blackhawks dominated by out-shooting their opponent by a wide margin.
In the first period we saw some pretty undisciplined play on both sides: the two teams received 12 penalty minutes combined in the first stanza. The hard work on the Blackhawks' part paid off in the middle of the second period; Oliver Takacsi-Nagy tied the game, assisted by Brandon Shank and Jeffrey Hickey.
The home team continued to dominate the Colts and drew a lot of penalties. In the beginning of the third period, Brandon put us ahead from a goal assisted by Oliver and Adriana Durst.
Unfortunately, the end of the third period repeated; by now, a painfully familiar pattern. Our opponent hustled hard, we made mistakes and all of a sudden they were up 3:2. At the end, the Colts managed to score an empty net goal as the Hawks failed to send six players to the ice from a bad change.
For most of the game, we outplayed the Stockton Colts but this Sunday morning things went the Colts' way in the crucial moments and we failed to stay in the game for the last few minutes that ended up costing us dearly.
Goaltender Tyler Martz saved eight of 11 shots. The Colts' fourth and final goal was shot to an empty net.
Despite the loss, there is something positive worth mentioning: According to the coaches, this was the best passing game that this team has played so far.
The Blackhawks and the Colts will play again in Stockton on Sunday, Feb. 12.
