December 13, 2005 > Silliman Aquatic Center wins award

Newark's Silliman Family Aquatic Center, won "Best of Aquatics" award from Aquatics International Magazine, the leading trade publication in the aquatics industry. The center was placed in the category of "Best Public/Nonprofit Indoor Family Aquatics Center" with 50,000 to 100,000 in annual attendance. There were a total of 17 awards given within eight categories; the Silliman Family Aquatic Center was one of two issued throughout California.

The staff is especially proud of this distinction as the criteria for the award was based upon the aquatic programming the facility offers to their customers.

Current programs include open recreation swim time, lap swim time, mini (toddler) recreation swim hours, water walking hours, group and private swim lessons (age toddler through adult), splash aerobics, senior splash aerobics, water track classes, wellness classes, competitive swim classes, water camps, a Jr. Lifeguard program, Lifeguard training and pool safety presentations for the classroom. Our special events include programs such as the Swim Lake Tahoe Challenge, Parents Night Out, Drop and Shop (during December), Movie Nights, special events that are holiday specific like the Aquatic Pumpkin Patch and Aqua Easter Egg Hunt. We host private and group reservations as well as four different birthday party packages which can include food packages from our Otter Alley Cafˇ.
