Blue Crush place 2nd in Directors Cupby Tammy Cox
Blue Crush advanced to the championship playoff at Fremont's 2005 Directors Cup as result of a tough defense holding opponents scoreless at all four games. The first game played Saturday was won with a 3 - 0 win against the Tidal Waves. Katie Frazer scored two goals and Alanna Mozzetti scored the third. Game two and three were tied at 0 - 0 giving Blue Crush 18 points, which resulted in first place for their flight, advancing them to the championship game against the Strikers.
Championship play was nail biting. Both teams played hard the whole game, which ended with a score of 0 - 0. To determine the winner, two "sudden death" (golden goal) periods were played which ended up scoreless as well. From there, FIFA kicks from the penalty spot (five kicks alternating) were shot where the Strikers outscored Blue Crush for the win. Both teams played hard with great sportsmanship. Congratulations to the Strikers and Blue Crush on a great game.
Special recognition is in order to players for outstanding play. Jamie Camello played exceptionally well as goalie, allowing 0 goals scored at all games. Alanna Mozzetti, Katie Frazer, Elizabeth Mooney and Paige Rath all played outstanding, both offensively and defensively. Erica Neave, Kellianne Elliott, Claire McGlaggen, Payal Makhijani and Aishwarya Thakur played aggressive as defenders. Persistent goal attempts were made by all offensive players; Nishi Saksena, Chandini Soni, Hannah Johnson, Brianna Thornton, Jenna Hamze and Jocelyn Gordovez.
